Conversion Services work?

ESTC’s Conversion Service is a consulting service wrapped
around a set of customized utilities to assist a customer with
the arduous task of moving existing report definitions and report
data from one report distribution system to another.
Many
companies have invested many man-years to define their report
distribution process. As newer solutions are available in the
marketplace, many companies consider these newer and better
solutions but hesitate when they realize the investment they’ve
made in their existing system. ESTC offers a means to leverage
that investment by extracting the data and definitions, modifying
the information as may be necessary to input into the newer
product and then invoking a process by which to load the data
into the new system.
One
of the keys to ESTC’s conversion process is that when converting
the actual report data, the original date associated with the
report data is not disturbed or modified. What that means is
the report is received into the new product as if it had been
there since the report was originally created. This maintains
the integrity of the archival process so that the report is
"aged" just like it was in the old system. Also, if
appropriate, reports that had already been stored on tape in
the old system would likewise be stored on tape (or appropriate
media) within the new system.
In
order to accomplish this type of conversion, ESTC personnel
begin by meeting with various people within your organization
to identify and understand your specific needs. A pilot group
of reports or an application is chosen for the initial conversion.
Once any outstanding conversion concerns have been addressed,
the utilities may be modified to fit the client’s specific
requirements.
The
pilot reports are then converted and reviewed with client personnel
to assure proper conversion. Once the client approves the conversion,
a schedule for the remaining conversion is defined. Conversions
can be done by date, report id, application or any other selectable
criteria.
Typically,
the remaining conversion tasks are performed remotely by ESTC
personnel although we do provide an option for the client to
lease the utilities to do the conversion in-house. The cost
for the lease of the utilities includes appropriate technical
support during the conversion.
Conversions
of report definitions and data vary depending on the number
of reports and the size of the archived data. Typically, ESTC
is able to convert a client from one product to another within
60 to 90 days.
